This is how I tested:

$ irb
ruby-1.8.6-p383 > require "date"
=> true
ruby-1.8.6-p383 > Date.valid_civil?(2009, 11, 23)
=> nil

Hi Nobuyoshi,

Did you try it on Linux? I asked a friend to test it. Although it was working well on Mac, he was able to reproduce on Ubunut 9.10.

"I can't reproduce it with p388." You mean p383, right?

i couldn't reproduce this problem.
but, it seems to be an issue on build.
i strongly recommend you to execute "make test-all".
