Better to say, the expected behavior is:

$ ruby --disable-gems -e "puts require('bigdecimal')"
-e:1:in
require': cannot load such file -- bigdecimal (LoadError) from -e:1:in
'
Ruby master - Bug #6123: Properly gemify BigDecimalhttps://redmine.ruby-lang.org/issues/6123?journal_id=243502012-03-07T22:06:13Zvo.x (Vit Ondruch)v.ondruch@tiscali.cz

Please note that I picked the BigDecimal just randomly. It applies to all other "gems" which are currently bundled in Ruby.
Ruby master - Bug #6123: Properly gemify BigDecimalhttps://redmine.ruby-lang.org/issues/6123?journal_id=243512012-03-07T22:15:55Znaruse (Yui NARUSE)naruse@airemix.jp

Status changed from Open to Rejected

This is not only for bigdecimal but also io-console, json, minitest, psych, rake, and rdoc.
It is because they are not true gem, they are fake gem.
Ruby master - Bug #6123: Properly gemify BigDecimalhttps://redmine.ruby-lang.org/issues/6123?journal_id=243532012-03-07T22:27:23Zvo.x (Vit Ondruch)v.ondruch@tiscali.cz

Could you please enlighten me what is the purpose of fake gem then? Even if you install updated BigDecimal from rubygems.org, the bundled version will won unless you use "gem 'bidgecimal'" somewhere in the code. This makes no sense.
Ruby master - Bug #6123: Properly gemify BigDecimalhttps://redmine.ruby-lang.org/issues/6123?journal_id=243552012-03-07T22:42:23Znaruse (Yui NARUSE)naruse@airemix.jp

It is another issue; could you make another ticket and assign it to Eric Hodel?
Ruby master - Bug #6123: Properly gemify BigDecimalhttps://redmine.ruby-lang.org/issues/6123?journal_id=243562012-03-07T22:51:37Zvo.x (Vit Ondruch)v.ondruch@tiscali.cz
